There is an election today in Los Angeles county in which the Mayor is running basically unopposed. My neighbor across the street is supporting his cousin for a city council seat by stabbing signs with his last name on every available piece of green real estate he has.

I try my best not to skip these smaller elections, but it’s hard sometimes. I don’t like voting when I don’t know anything about the candidates, and work has been to busy to really read up on those who are trying to weasel their way into a little bit of power as the second in command to the comptroller.

I am going to hit up the local voting booth for a few issues. Most of them are pretty tame, having to do with benefits to firefighter families and tax breaks for businesses. The most controversial thing this year is some solar power plan that seems to make sense, but will end up costing too much money. The alternative is, of course, to do nothing that makes any sense and spend too much money.

Still, it’s nice to have some choices.
