Saw this come across my twitter feed today:
Wiggins may be amazing, but he hasn’t won anything yet.
I dig the throwback socks, but I am worried the powers that be at Sports Illustrated are putting a little too much pressure on a kid who hasn’t even taken his first elbow in a Big 12 game.
I understand that the current culture of sports requires we anoint the next big thing every single day, and let results be damned, but this is my team their messing with, and I prefer it when we fly under the radar just a little bit. (You know, ranked in the top ten, but not the top five at the start of the season, so we have something to aspire too.)
Overall, it has been odd not waiting for the college basketball season to start. With the Royals being competitive into late September and the Chiefs somehow standing at 5-0, I don’t need that cathartic beat-down of Whatever Directional State College in quite the same way I usually do.
At any rate, seeing this did give me a reason to look up my all-time favorite Sports Illustrated cover.
