The phone rang at about 8:15a.m.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“Hello?”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“Mr. Miller, this is Andrea from Dr. Kalifeh’s office.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“Crap.”<\/div>\n
<\/a><\/div>\n
“Sir. Are you on your way in for your appointment with Dr. Kalifey this morning?”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“No. I’m sorry. I completely forgot.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“Sir. The doctor came in early today for your appointment specifically.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“I know. I don’t know what happened. I guess I forgot to look at my calendar last night.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“Myself and the hygenist all came in early. It is not good to miss these appointments.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“I know. I know.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“We did call and confirm with you on Tuesday.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“Yes, you did. I remember.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“We require 48 hours notice if you are going to cancel an appointment.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“I didn’t want to cancel it.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“Then, why aren’t you here?”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“I told you. I forgot.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“Even with our reminder phone call?”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“Yeah. You know, yesterday was a crappy day at work and my mind wandered. I really am sorry.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“I was going to take my daughter into work today and had to call a friend to do it, because I came in eary for you.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“Wow. That’s too bad.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“The doctor is upset, too. He has to pay me and the hygenist. This is costing him money.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“Well, can’t you do some filing or something?”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“My job is to make sure you are here. I called you two days ago. I may get in trouble because you didn’t come.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“Really? That doesn’t seem fair.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“Life is not fair. You get to sleep in while a stranger takes my daughter to work.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“A stranger? I though you said a friend was taking her.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“But, I hardly know him. And I don’t trust him. You promised to come in today and look at what’s happened. How am I supposed to believe in anything anymore?”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“Look, I’ll reschedule. I’ll come in. I promise.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“How do I know you’ll come?”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“Can’t you bill me or something if I break the appointment again?”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“So, you think money will solve this problem? Is that how you handle everything?”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“That’s not fair. I’m trying to be a good guy here. I overslept and didn’t check my calendar.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“Please don’t yell at me, sir.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“I’m sorry. You’re right. I should have been there.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“Thank you, sir. Thank you for admitting you were wrong.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“Well, I am sorry. Can I please reschedule?”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“We have an opening in three weeks. Wednesday at 9a.m.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“That sounds perfect.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“I will call to remind you.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“Great. I can’t wait.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“School is out that week. Perhaps you can meet my daughter.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“That would be wonderful.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“You should bring her a treat.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“Really? Is that appropriate?”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“She’s very upset with you right now for making me come into work early.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“She sounds a lot like her mother.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“I am very proud.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“I’m going to go now. I don’t want to miss any more appointments today.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“You’re a better person already, sir. Good-bye.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“Good-bye.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
So, yeah. I think I may need to find a new dentist.<\/div>\n
